class=\"eael-team-text\">Confalonieri se ha especializado en las \u00e1reas \u201cGen\u00e9tica Evolutiva\u201d y dentro de \u00e9sta, en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os se ha dedicado a la \u201cGen\u00e9tica Ecol\u00f3gica\u201d, es decir a responder preguntas ecol\u00f3gicas con herramientas te\u00f3ricas y metodol\u00f3gicas que nacen de la teor\u00eda evolutiva, la gen\u00e9tica de poblaciones, y de la biolog\u00eda molecular. Ha publicado mas de 90 art\u00edculos sobre estas tem\u00e1ticas. En la actualidad sus investigaciones se centran en estudios filogeogr\u00e1ficos y filogen\u00e9ticos de insectos plagas de cultivos, especialmente gorgojos, langostas y hormigas. Los estudios llevados a cabo por ella y su grupo de investigaci\u00f3n han indicado que algunos gorgojos nativos de Sud Am\u00e9rica han invadido con \u00e9xito ambientes marginales en todo el mundo debido a la reproducci\u00f3n asexual, que a su vez se asocia posiblemente con la presencia del endosimbionteWolbachia. Por otro lado, estudios realizados en una langosta (Trimerotropispallidipennis) les permitieron demostrar el rol que cumplir\u00edan algunas reestructuraciones cromos\u00f3micas en la adaptaci\u00f3n a distintos ambientes y como disparadores de procesos especiog\u00e9nicos. Asimismo, se destacan sus investigaciones biogeogr\u00e1ficas basadas en filogenias moleculares, que les permitieron analizar la evoluci\u00f3n de distintos grupos en relaci\u00f3n a la ocurrencia de eventos geol\u00f3gicos y clim\u00e1ticos, como el surgimiento de las islas Gal\u00e1pagos y del Istmo de Panam\u00e1, la deriva continental que llev\u00f3 a la separaci\u00f3n de \u00c1frica y Am\u00e9rica, el levantamiento de la Cordillera de los Andes y\/o las \u00faltimas glaciaciones que ocurrieron durante el Pleistoceno. Su producci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica tambi\u00e9n incluye estudios gen\u00e9tico-poblacionales y citogen\u00e9ticos en razas de Zea mays nativas de Am\u00e9rica del Sur, y de otras especies emparentadas al ma\u00edz. Los resultados de estos estudios ayudaron a dilucidar las rutas de dispersi\u00f3n del ma\u00edz domesticado desde Am\u00e9rica Central hasta Sud
